Welcome to ESMoD:
European Small and Mobile Domes

It had been heard numerous times at countless conferences: "Shouldn't we have a cross European network for planetarians?" or "Why isn't there a network dedicated to small/interactive domes?" It was at IPS in Berlin 2024 that we decided to finally move from idea to action!What we are and what we will evolve to become is up to the community. At the moment we are mostly a group of like minded professionals sharing news, tips and best practices on Discord.

Communicate to e.g. ESA, ESO, Cern, ESERO, what type of content would be useful for small and mobile domes.If dome content is being shared then ESMoD could normalize sharing content in their local languages (not just English). Europeans are used to having to translate content.In person meetings are great, but smaller planetaria have limited funds so meetings mostly attract people that live close by. Online events reach people that may feel professionally isolated.ESMoD is a good name, easy to remember as it is an anagram of DOMES![People around here] sucks with English language. But English is the best way to communicate within the larger group, for sure.

An ESMoD day was held both in-person and (partially) online, in order to gauge interest for a European network for small and mobile dome. The response was generally positive from the ca 40 people attending. The online part of the programme was streamed but not recorded.

Future Meetups

Right now we are just happy that the ESMoD network is growing on Discord.
In the near future we would like to find collaborators within the Planetarium community and arrange more in-person meet-ups.

The ESMoD Discord server is an online space dedicated to communication, cooperation and exchange of ideas. We welcome planetarium professionals, educators, technicians, presenters, content creators, researchers and enthusiasts from across Europe (and beyond).Be respectful
Treat every member with courtesy and respect. Opinions may differ, but personal attacks, instults, discrimination or harassment will get you kicked out. Remember that linguistic differences may sometimes lead to misunderstandings. When in doubt, assume good intentions and remain constructive.Languages
Although much of the communication on Discord remains in English, all (major) European languages are allowed. If you see a post you do not understand then Discord has a bot that will help you translate it.
As for resources, ESMoD encourrages people to share educational material that may be of interest to the community in any European language you have them in.Respect copyright and licences
Only share material that you are legally allowed to distribute. Credit appropreate source/author whenever applicable. The ESMoD Discord server should not be used to distribute pirated or unauthorised material. Always ask the original author before re-posting/sharing their content beyond the ESMoD Discord channel.Keep discussions constructive and on topic
The goal of the server is to encourrange exchange of ideas and resources within a community of professional planetarians and space educators. A little informal conversation is of course fine, but be mindful of the channel topics and post appropreately.Promotions and advertisement
Please stay true to the spirit of the Discord channel and avoid repetitive advertisement. Announcements of new products, shows, software, equipment, conferences, job oportunities etc. may of course be of interest to the community, but be mindful not to go overboard in promoting your own favourite product. People posting spam or harmfull content will get removed.Transperancy
We encourrange all members to choose a recognisable username and to state their Planetarium / Institution / Organisation / Country in their profile.
